Save the Date for the White River Cleanup: September 15, 2018!
The White River Cleanup has been responsible for removing over 96,000 pounds of trash and 600+ tires from our beautiful river. It has drawn well over 2,500 volunteers over the years, making it the largest single-day volunteer event in Delaware County. Last year alone brought around 400 volunteers to Westside Park. The White River Clean-Up covers close to 15 miles of river from the Old Indiana Steel and Wire Plant all the way to Canoe Country in Daleville.
We request that volunteers pre-register so we have a headcount for lunch and proper volunteer coverage for each site. Lunch and a water bottle will be provided to all volunteers who attend the event. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately by wearing clothes and shoes that can get dirty and wet. Please bring gloves if you have them.

About this event:
The White River Cleanup happens each September, and is a statewide public service event stretching along much of the White River. Many counties including Delaware, Hamilton, Monroe, Madison and Morgan Counties participate in cleaning up the White River on or near the same date. People come together from all communities to help clean the White River and thousands of pounds of trash are removed every year including large amounts of tires.
Volunteers walk the bank, river and land where possible removing debris from and around the river. When that is not possible, volunteers use canoes to navigate through the water filling them up along the way with the debris they find.
The White River Cleanup is sponsored by the Stormwater Management Department and organized by Muncie-Delaware Clean & Beautiful.
Many partners come together and contribute at different levels to make this event one of Delaware County’s most accomplishing community work days. Such partners include: the Muncie Sanitary District, the Bureau of Water Quality, the Town of Yorktown, American Rivers, Minnetrista Cultural Center, MITS, Ball State University, White River Watershed Project, Normal City Fly Fishers Club, Grace Baptist Church, EmComm ECI, and the Muncie Parks Department.
