  • Melinda Messineo, PhD – President

    Melinda is a professor of sociology at Ball State University. She has received numerous teaching awards at her current institution and from the American Sociological Association and the North Central Sociological Association. Melinda is a California native and loves running, riding and roller-blading on the trails of our community. She is considered by many to have descended from the Lorax given her sincere love of trees.

  • Ken Ring - Vice President

    A Muncie native, Ken graduated from Ball State with a degree in Secondary Education. He has been married for over 30 years, and a martial art teacher for over 20 years. He is the proud father of four, has published one novel and is working on a sequel. While grateful for his sole grandchild, he holds onto hope for more.

  • Clair Burt – Secretary

    Clair is the District Director for the Delaware County Soil & Water Conservation District. She is a member of Delaware County Invasive Plant Project (DIPP) and serves on committees for the Upper White River Watershed Management Plan. Clair is a Delaware County native and enjoys crafting, listening to audiobooks, and growing native plants.

  • MDCB Treasurer Kelli Clark

    Kelli Clark - Treasurer

    Kelli has spent many years in the non-profit sector and is currently a Sr. Business Analyst for Americares Foundation, Inc., a global health-focused non-profit organization that responds to people affected by poverty or disaster with life-changing medicine, medical supplies, health services and programs.  She holds a bachelor's degree (B.S.) in both Accountancy and Finance from Wright State University and an MBA from East Tennessee State University.  In a former life, Kelli even served as a Division I volleyball coach.  She resides in the Muncie area with her husband and two children.  Most weekends they can be found playing tennis, watching a sporting event or hiking.

  • Austin Weiland

    Austin Weiland is an IAH-accredited Horticulturalist who works at Minnetrista as Lead Horticulture Specialist. He joined the MDCB board in 2019 and is also a board member of the Urban Forestry and helps coordinate the Memorial Tree plantings. He is an Eagle Scout and an avid outdoorsman who likes taking care of his animals and plants, kayaking, fishing, and disc golfing.

  • Rachel Weiland

    Rachel Weiland

    Rachel is a current employee of the Ross Community Center, located on Muncie’s Southside. There she works with local children in all of their out-of -school, educational programming. She also maintains the Ross community park and gardens, where she showcases the importance and accessibility of native plants. Rachel enjoys painting, printmaking and anything nature related.

  • Donna Browne

    Donna is Head of User Engagement at Archives & Special Collections, Bracken Library.  She has worked with the BSU-MCS CREATE Project and as a grant writer for the Center for Energy Research/Education/Service (CERES) at Ball State University and also in several positions at Muncie Public Library, including Head of the Reference Department and grant writing/public instruction.  Between 2009-2020, Donna served in turn as Muncie Action Plan’s Coordinator, Board member, and Co-Chair, and she is a 2011 Academy of Community Leadership graduate.  Donna’s interests include reading, travel (US National Parks, Caribbean, Asia, and Europe, and beautiful Iceland), being outdoors, any dog anywhere, and playing soprano and tenor recorders in early music ensembles.

  • Jeff Hansard

    Jeff Hansard, who hails from Muncie, is Delaware County's Chief Probation Officer. An Indiana University Bloomington graduate and Academy for Community Leadership alumnus, Jeff is committed to environmental and social responsibility and using natural resources in a way to foster sustainable community safety and pride. Along with his wife and two daughters, he enjoys camping, biking, and fishing.

  • Ed Candelario

    Ed was born and raised in Tucson Arizona.  He joined the Marine Corps in 1993 and moved to Indiana in 1998. He worked as a mechanic while serving in US Army Reserve and retired from the 310th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in 2019.

    Ed is a board member for the Muncie Baseball Softball Association and his hobbies include beekeeping, flying drones, farming, toy collecting, and picking up trash.

  • Mike Stults

    Mike Stults

    Mike, originally from the bustling metropolis of Hartford City Indiana, has been a proud Muncie resident for over 20 years. As the Director of Client Success at LEAP Managed IT, he ensures clients are as satisfied as he is when he gets to turn “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” into a success story. Mike is also a dedicated member of The Bridge Community Church, where he tries not to accidentally volunteer for everything. He and his family are Muncie enthusiasts, enjoying everything local. Whether it’s rocking out at Canan Commons concerts, pretending to be professional cyclists on Muncie’s trails, or sampling every local restaurant and coffee shop. Mike joined the MDCB board to help make Muncie even more beautiful, one flower bed at a time.
